Question Time With ILI

Question Time With ILI

1) What inspired you to get involved with DJing?

I discovered DnB and have been raving since 2017, when I was 18. I fell in love with the music and the rave culture, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’ve always had a connection with drum and bass more than any other kind of music, and I’ve been refining my taste and my sound for all these years. I never actively wanted to be a DJ or work in music, but after all this time something finally clicked in my head and I just knew this is what I had to do with my life. I’ve recently started learning music production, and that’s what I ultimately want to be doing.

2) What artists do you look up to for influence and inspiration?

Break, Molecular, Alix Perez, Monrroe, Pola & Bryson, Charli Brix, Flava D… the list goes on.

3) What artists from the underground DnB scene have caught your eye?

Serpnt, Kolas, Vektah, GROUND. There are so many amazingly talented artists out there, and I always try to keep an eye out for new music.

4) If you could collab with any musician of any genre, who would you choose and why?

Break. I’ve been a fan of his work for so long. He’s the first artist that made me genuinely understand deep DnB and realize it’s my genre. It would honestly be a dream to collaborate with him one day.

5) What are your top 5 non-DnB tunes?

  1. Skywalking – Mathame
  2. Say It – Flume
  3. Worst Comes to Worst – Dilated Peoples
  4. Fluorescent Adolescent – Arctic Monkeys
  5. Right Down the Line – Gerry Rafferty

6) If music was not your passion, what do you think you would be pursuing instead?

I’ve always been really interested in the complexity of our brains, whether that’s emotions, consciousness, or how we experience things. I think that’s part of why I love music so much, because there’s nothing else in the world that affects our brains in quite the same way music does. So probably either psychology or neurobiology.
