Question Time With KAISER

1) What inspired you to get involved with DJing?
I have always involved myself with something musical, in my teens I taught myself the guitar, in my 20's I took drum lessons. DJing is just an extension to this I feel. However, in regards to inspiration for doing it, I was at a party my friend held at his comic book store and it was really the first time being close enough to see someone DJ and I found the whole process so fascinating to watch. The level of control and the process of mixing captivated me. When it was my friend's turn I found a new sense of awe for him, he has involved himself in music more in-depth then I ever have and was enthralled and begged him to teach me. So that month I bought myself a 2nd hand mix track pro 3 and then barely touched it for years until another friend, who was was producing his own work for years without telling anyone, told me to get stuck in with it and 2 years later here I am building my following, my skills and just playing bangers.
2) What artists do you look up to for influence and inspiration?
So my background in music stems a lot from heavy metal and I like to find a similar vibe to certain bands such as TOOL, Type O Negative, Dopethrone, 1000mods, just to name a few. They have this certain element in them that I try to find in DnB with artists like QZB, Sustance, Enei, SMG and Noisia. These bands and these DnB artists all have this hollow deep darkness to their work that I am just hooked to. I love it. Techno music has also been a big influence in how I play too, stemming back to the blood rave scene in Blade or the cave dance scene in Matrix Reloaded. Those scenes are what I am trying to recreate with the sets I play so everyone just gets lost in the deep rhythm of the music.
3) What artists from the underground DnB scene have caught your eye?
The main artist that has come to mind is DSB, she does amazing work to help promote female DJ's and puts on such great events promoting more recognition for female DJs. Another artist as well who has caught my eye is Bidois, every time I see him do anything it's just so much fun to watch his energy is contagious.
4) If you could collab with any musician of any genre, who would you choose and why?
I would love to collaborate with MC's like Strategy or Freddy B would love them to put some vocals on track I would produce. They have such restraint of energy and have cold lyrics that would pair so well with the dark minimal tracks I produce.
5) What are your top 5 non DnB tunes?
Passenger - Deftones
Everyone I Love Is Dead - Type O Negative
Prince Tulip - $uicide Boy$
I'm the Mountain - Stoned Jesus
Kalawanji - Kromestar
6) If music was not your passion, what do you think you would be pursuing instead?
If I wasn't DJing I would probably continue my career as a tattoo artist and open my own tattoo studio. I have worked in a few for quite a while in my early 20's however I left the industry as it has its own share of issues that just don’t align with my principles meaning I cannot work for someone else in this field. Either way it would be something creative.
