Question Time With Loose

1) What inspired you to get involved with DJing?
My parents brought me up listening to artists like Pendulum and Chase & Status, so I’ve always had a love for high-energy, high-BPM music. What really pushed me towards DJing, though, was going to smaller venues and clubs and seeing the energy DJs could create in a room. I remember thinking, “If it feels this good in the crowd, imagine being the person creating that energy.” That idea stuck with me.
2) What artists do you look up to for influence and inspiration?
My influences are pretty wide-ranging across all the sub-genres of DnB, but a few really stand out. SOTA is a big one — the way he blends jump-up, emotional melodies and rock influences works so well, and his live shows are on another level.
Chase & Status have also been a huge influence because they’ve been part of my musical catalogue from the beginning.
Then there are the artists on Critical Music, who are constantly pushing the boundaries of sound design. Their sets always feel unique, which is something I really respect.
3) What artists from the underground DnB scene have caught your eye?
Fuze is on a different wavelength right now. His set at Gemfest was genuinely one of the best I’ve seen, and every release somehow seems to raise the bar again.
Fatale is massively underrated too. She has such a strong catalogue of minimal tunes and a really polished sound.
Jewlezy is an animal on the decks as well — his blends and track selection remind me of a younger A.M.C.
4) If you could collaborate with any musician from any genre, who would you choose and why?
Picking one is difficult, but I’d probably go with Pirapus or Arcando. Their production is consistently unreal, and I’d love to see how their brains work creatively. Even just being in a session with them and learning how they approach sound design, arrangement and production would be invaluable.
5) What are your top five non-DnB tunes?
There’s definitely a bit of recency bias in there, but I’m going with:
- “Blue Curacao” — Drinks On Me
- “Bounce to the Sound” — Nik Sitz
- “Blue Mile” — Of The Trees
- “Bring Em Out” — T.I.
- “Numb” — Linkin Park
6) If music wasn’t your passion, what do you think you’d be pursuing instead?
That’s a difficult one because music takes up so much of my focus. I’m really into bouldering, although I don’t think I’ll be winning any awards for it anytime soon. I’d probably spend more time in the gym and finally work on my cooking, because that definitely needs some improvement.
